Tubulum TURTLE construction by students

Students explored the links in music, maths and science involved with Tubulum construction in the key of E. Students measured the required lengths needed for each note for the single octave Turtle Tubulum, and helped assemble the cut lengths for testing and final tuning.

Year 6 students were studying order of operations, and the equations for speed of sound based on temperature, and tube length, speed of sound and diameter matched the current math topic nicely, and showed a relevant application for the theory. Making musical tnsturments is the ideal way for maths calculations to be tested, corrected and tested again until the correct musical note is displayed on the tuner, students get immediate feedback on accuracy.
